K-Factor Forecasts

K-Factors, or K-Indices, measure solar activity. High levels of solar activity have been shown to affect the homing ability of pigeons.

For data directly from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, use the following links. All times on these pages are given in UT (Universal Time), which is the same as GMT (Greenwich Mean Time -- Greenwich, England).

• K-Factor readings for the last three days, given in 3 hour increments.
• Last 2 days of A & K indices, given in 3 hour increments.
  • There is a lot of other data given besides K-Factors. In particular, an A-Factor is often reported with the K-Factors, but is a much higher value.
  • There are a number of reporting stations listed on these pages. The closest station to you is Fredericksburg, Virginia. Boulder is also acceptably close in terms of latitude.
